About the Journal

Since 1994, the Journal of Healthcare Finance (JHF) has published over 600 articles in the field of healthcare finance. We are excited to announce several important updates as we begin a new chapter in the journal's history.

New Editorial Leadership and Website

JHF has undergone an editorial transition.  Jim Unland, who served as Editor-in-Chief for over twenty-five years, has handed over editorial responsibilities to Dunc Williams, PhD and Aaron Winn, PhD, who now serve as the new Co-Editors-in-Chief. We are honored to continue his legacy, and we're pleased that Jim will remain involved as Editor Emeritus.

We've also launched a new website: journalofhealthcarefinance.com. Here, you can continue to access the same data-driven content and peer-reviewed articles that have defined the journal for more than 30 years.

Our Mission

JHF is committed to publishing financially-intensive peer-reviewed U.S. health policy research. Our goal is to support policymakers, researchers, healthcare executives, investors, and consultants in making empirically-based, financially informed decisions that improve healthcare.

Unlike other peer journals that may focus more narrowly on health services or finance, JHF fills a critical gap by publishing research that blends both disciplines. JHF occupies a unique space at the intersection of:

  • Health services research
  • Financial economics and accounting
  • Policy analysis and evaluation
  • Hospital and healthcare financial management
  • Business strategy, operations and decision-making
  • Capital markets and investment banking perspectives in healthcare and pharmaceuticals

Who Should Read JHF?

Our content is relevant to a wide range of healthcare professionals, including:

  • Policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Healthcare executives and providers
  • Members of organizations such as ACHCA, ACHE, AHA, AMA, AUPHA, HFMA, and MGMA
  • Researchers in public health and business schools
  • Advisory, accounting, and consulting groups
  • Healthcare investors, analysts, and professionals in banking and capital markets who evaluate healthcare and pharmaceutical opportunities
